Famous oil producing areas

In Greece there are large oil tree groves in Crete, Messenia, Lesvos island, Ionian islands and Amfissa.

Greece produces more than 430,000 tons of olive oil annually, and more than 75% of that is Extra virgin olive oil, which is the best type of olive oil.

Today, 2/3 of the domestic production of olive oil is from Crete and the Peloponnese. It is estimated that 1/2 of the annual oil production is exported mainly to European countries and especially in Italy that absorbs 3/4 of total exports.
